Character Background

• History: "It's my life, I get all the votes."
• Core Relationships:

JIMMY & AMELIA NOVAK

Her parents for the first twelve years of her life taught her right from wrong and then fell in way too deep after making themselves martyrs. They're the reason she's alive and the reason for a lot of her problems. Everything was great until it wasn't, and one decision made by her dad changed the course of her life forever. Claire used to be religious and blissfully unaware of how cruel the world could be. Her dad has a hand in subverting one apocalypse and the train goes off the tracks, goodbye naivety hello cut-throat will to survive.

CASTIEL

For a while it was a lot easier to blame all of her problems on Castiel instead of her own issues with what happened, with the fact that nobody would ever believe it, and her own abandonment issues. Her family fell apart because of Castiel, he was the match that lit the flame that burnt her world as she knew it to ashes. It was an easy conclusion to come to, when she had to scrap and steal just to get by and barely made it out of the ordeal alive. The Castiel she knew at twelve was a cold, unfeeling, robot - nothing like the Precious Moments Veggie Tales crap that was sold to her. He didn't care, took and did what he had to for god's almighty plan. A plan that involved him jumping inside her body for a hot minute so that he could right his wrongs and save her family one last time before destroying everything. His entrance into her life came at the expense of everything she'd ever known and believed, and he tore through the foundations she'd built as a budding preteen and left her world in shambles.

At her lowest point, a stone's throw away from being in the system forever - Castiel showed up on the wings of a promise that he made to her father. She wore her resentment on her sleeve, and despite it, Castiel did what he could to recover the broken piece of the family he'd shattered. His dedication to that, instead of some holy war, felt more human than she'd ever seen. It was nothing like the memory of the terminator in her father's skin that had haunted her the past five years. His struggles with Dean, with Sam, and with his own beliefs and alignment made him a different person. In the end, he got her somewhere safe and gave her something more concrete. It's still hard to look at him, even on a good day, but her dad made his choice and that's not something she can blame Castiel for anymore. He's just like anybody else, flawed, and doing the best with what he's been given.

DEAN & SAM WINCHESTER

Dumb & Dumber, Laurel & Hardy, but one hundred percent positive male-role models anyway. When Claire first met Sam he was an addict dealing with a serious power struggle and the next time she met Dean he slaughtered a room full of people and left their bodies on the floor like confetti. Not a great start, and she was supposed to trust her life with them? Fat chance. Accepting them into her worlds was like looking after Gonzo and his chickens. Sooner or later, something was gonna get fucked and it was mutually assured destruction either way. At least, that's what she thought, and despite her opinions, they both proved her wrong. Time and time again. They showed up, even when they didn't have to, and had a huge hand in her sense of stability and her life as a hunter. The weird collection of misfits that have become her family is something she wouldn't trade for peace of mind now. Even at her worst, they're willing to put boots on the ground and do whatever is necessary to keep her straight and make things right. She's learned a lot from them both, about the trade, and about life and how to roll with the punches and keep moving forward.

JODY & ALEX

Her "Found Family," the pieces of a really fucked up jigsaw puzzle that she can fit into. Claire found a strong female role model in Jody, a woman that didn't crack under the pressure but became a diamond instead. A mom that destiny saw fit to give her when her own parents succumbed to the first wave. Jody is Claire's lynchpin, and Alex keeps her grounded - what they've both been through, had to endure, and have used to fortify their strength is incredible to Claire. Her life with Jody and with her sister Alex is everything to her, and despite not being related by blood - family doesn't end with it. They accepted her as she was, broken and belligerent, and gave her something she thought she'd lost. A home, a family, a sense of unity, loyalty, devotion, and love. There's not a damn thing she wouldn't do for them, and for the people that they care about. Being around strong women like them, like Donna Hanscum, and Patience Turner have unknowingly given Claire the strength to face each day with more ferocity and tenacity than the last.

KAIA NIEVES

Her first real love and her first taste of true happiness, when Rihanna talked about finding love in a hopeless place Claire thought it was bullshit until she met her. Up against impossible odds and burdened with a life she didn't choose, their connection was immediate. Claire was the only one capable of talking Kaia down, without violence, without threats, and the two of them started something that Claire had given up on. She'd stopped waiting for a fairytale romance when she was thirteen, stopped believing in a happily ever after but with Kaia she could almost see it.

When she lost Kaia to The Bad Place something in her snapped. She became a woman obsessed, trailing after the hooded figure that killed her first love like a madwoman: state to state living out of her car, motel rooms, and truck stops. Claire doesn't know that Kaia survived, is still possessed by her grief and Jody never got the chance to tell her what really happened. Vengeance has consumed her and she's spent the last two years of her life on the hunt, dedicated to finding and killing the thing that took Kaia from her.

• Summary of CRAU Impact:

Deerington, Chapter One

When Claire first "woke up," in Deerington city limits she was twenty-one fresh out of the fight with the British Division of the Men of Letters with a torch gun in tow. She didn't know another place could exist in a dream yet and didn't know that a "dream," could be a different dimension all by itself. Not eager to be a team player Claire spent the first few months of her life dealing with concurrent bullshit that got thrown their way solo. Her knack for fighting and her reputation for petty theft, and antagonizing the Betties got her more recognition than she wanted. In a place that was designed to break them down, in some tiny demi-god's brain, or dealing with Mother Superior she refused to break and challenged the opposition each and every time with something new at her disposal. Life in Deerington gave her more experience than her state-to-state hunting ever had, and she played to her strengths and was self-motivated with the notion that someday she might just wake up and the place would cease to exist, maybe even in memory.

Her first death was at the hands of the deadlights right before a subsequent mind fuck where she lost her memories and all sense of who she was aboard the Titanic. Following that, her perception of the place changed. She reached out a whole lot more and didn't play fast and loose with danger when things started going south. She reached out to people and became a functional member of society and tried to make things easier on not just herself but other people as well.

Claire left the city prior to the collapse in Trench and spent some time in Deer Country too before everything she left unfinished at home became too much of a burden to bear. Being a squid felt a lot easier by comparison, and it's a resource that she utilizes when everything else sucks.

Eddie & Richie

Seeing someone else coping with being dealt the same hand and being more vulnerable to boot really changes your perspective on things. That's where Eddie came in, shining bright despite the multiple attempts at being snuffed out. Something in him resonated with Claire, and she'd later find out why. Still grappling with her own sexuality under the surface his struggle of self-identity was something she knew all too well. They became close because of it and once Claire found Richie and rescued him not once, but several times over the two of them started to feel a lot like the little brothers she never got given despite being from decades ahead of her respectively. She got involved in their struggles, celebrated their successes. When they left some of her foundations for sticking it out in the trenches of well, Trench, went with them. Everything she'd come to love about being stuck in a dream had been because of them, and the sense of belonging was all theirs too.

Peter Graham

Something is seriously wrong with Peter, Claire just isn't sure what. Half of her is endeared to him, his nervousness, and she does what she can to pull him out of his shell. A night at the bowling alley in Deer Country turned into stealing a round of bowling and as many snacks as the two of them could make. She had to urge that along and get him to come out of his shell, and ever since she's taken it upon herself to make him let loose and experience life. Then there's the other part of him, the part she can't one hundred percent attribute to Deerington and its bizarre whirlwind of crap. Every part of her wants to help, but she's guarded about it and defensive because something feels off.

Dean(s), Sam(s), & Castiel(s)

It's gotten exhausting having to explain herself again and again to whatever set of Winchesters manages to make itself known in Trench. The dozens of times Castiel's not known who she is, or has known too much rubberbands her around emotionally and so she's resigned herself to keeping the three of them as close as possible, but still at arm's length. They don't need to know when she's hurting and what she's going through, it's a way to defend herself emotionally through the revolving door of those guys and what they may or may not remember. She loves them, she'll put her life on the line for them, but true vulnerability isn't an option because of the inconsistency.

Character Personality Through Key Moments

(2+) Positive Experiences:

Claire is dedicated once she sets her mind to something she always follows through, and this behavior has made her an exemplary hunter and helped her nail down the choice to take that route, to begin with. Her conviction and wit has made her an asset to the Winchesters and the out of the box thinking and being quick on her feet helps her navigate her new life on the lam. She masks herself as a UPS delivery girl to save a little girl being held by werewolves and uses the fact that she looks innocent and seems petite to take him off guard. She's also resourceful and takes it upon herself to learn how to navigate and use the FBI database once she's able to hack in, she utilizes anything and everything available to her and sees opportunities where others don't. Her life on the street helped to create those ambitious and inventive tendencies and life as a hunter having to improvise when fighting things much stronger than herself have only made that instinct stronger.

More than that, Claire cares, as much as she might not want to - she does. She's able to forgive The Winchesters and Castiel even after she's made it clear how their involvement straight-up ruined her life. She helps Castiel, even despite it being uncomfortable for her, and always shows up when she's needed. She's tireless about doing whatever it takes to protect and help people. Her own life should be the exception to the rule, and she lives that like a mantra because despite what she's been through she beat the odds and she knows she has to use that for good.

(2+) Negative Experiences:

Claire can be bitter and closed-off, underneath all of the sarcastic bravado she has a hard time dealing with things and letting people in. It's a lot easier to stay solo and Jody Mills and Alex had a hard time breaking through the walls she'd put up. Life after thirteen wasn't easy for Claire and being in and out of the system and a stone's throw from juvenile detention didn't help her when it came to socializing. She learned early on that the best person she could ever rely on was herself. Claire calls it like she sees it, and doesn't care if the truth hurts. She's opinionated to a fault, direct, and doesn't censor herself, especially with the people that she cares about. When Castiel came to rescue her she tells him exactly what she thinks of him. "Haven't you done enough?" She doesn't cushion the blow, doesn't care that he's remorseful. She is clear and precise and has no problem calling things what they are. There's no point in sugar-coating it.

If someone tells her she can't do something, she'll show them she can. Claire's stubborn and rebellious streak is deeper than Trench itself. She doesn't like being told what to do and will go the distance to get shit done, even at the expense of herself. Getting into a knife fight with a werewolf so she could prove she knew what she was doing as a hunter ended with her being bitten and the Winchesters having to find and maim the werewolf so that she could be cured. Not many eat the heart of a werewolf and live to tell the tale, but she's proof that it's reversible.

There's not many twenty-somethings out there as callous and as intense as she is. Not many girls are willing to live out of a Subura Loyal to avenge their dead girlfriend or roll up and a British MI6 type agency with a fully loaded flame thrower. She takes it to a whole new level and has no problem beating up a bartender or putting her own needs on the line to make a point.

Deer Country Attributes

• Canon Powers:
Beyond being able to house an angel of the lord without being a drooling mess as a direct result, Claire gets by on talent and dedication to honing her hunting skills. She knows a little Enochian, but not much, and is proficient with many different weapons, can hold her own in a fight, and knows how to survive on the lam.

She's also a proficient pick-pocket and con-artist.

• Blood Type: Paleblood
• Omen: a great-eared nightjar.
• Blessed Day: April 29th: The day she found a family even after losing the very last pieces of hers. Also, the day that I'm using for a canonic birthday, given the events in the episode "Angel Heart," in season 10.
• Patron Pthumerian:
The Argonaut, and unwilling to spend too much time thinking about it. That natural curiosity will come later on. She knows about gods, pagan deities, and things that think because they're powerful they should have peons. Even the Judeo-Christian god turned out t be a total dickwad so her faith in actual worship has run dry. She's a former Christian by raise, but since an angel came in and fucked her entire life up she gave up on the power of prayer when she was still a teenager.

• Blood Power Manifestation:
Dreamwalking is going to manifest first, thanks to her close connection with Kaia who had been capable of similar feats. As her first love and first real loss, her bond with Kaia will cause that to happen first, followed by the visions and telepathy. These abilities will go haywire or increase in strength dependent upon her physical/mental state. Claire doesn't even like her own thoughts so getting transported with no cause into someone else's subconscious is bound to piss her off, and since she's had to rely on herself and what her body is capable of for so long she will take learning to control the manifestations of whatever they spiked her DNA cocktail with very seriously.
